39 intrepid members and their guests arrived just after day break to savour the delights of this first class golf course. After a hearty breakfast and warm welcome from the staff, the standard of golf was extremely high given the blustery wind accompanied by squalls of rain. After battling these conditions, the refurbished Clubhouse was a welcome sight, all being revived by a hot shower and the usual fantastic 3 course Xmas lunch.
Winner of the coveted David Squire Trophy, with 36 points, was our President,Kim Harris, just edging out Maurice Manning on countback over the front nine holes. The winning team with a great score of 87 points was a family affair of Doug and his son Grant Wilson with guest Kevin Yeo. Well done to all prizewinners.
This year ,for practical purposes, the raffle was brought forward to pre-lunchtime and it raised, through your generosity, a great sum of £355. Thanks to Howard Stokes, Dave Farndon and Brian Mitchinson for organising and conducting same. A further highlight was the Auction sweep with items varying from a vintage signed cricket bat, golf club vouchers, clothing to vintage malt whiskey. Kim Harris did a fantastic job as auctioneer and raised the sum of £1490 which together with the raffle proceeds will be placed directly to the Centenary Fund.
A very big thank you to our Captain John for his helping choose Festive hampers for the main prizes and the contribution from all present in making the day such a success.
Finally, by popular request, we will be returning to Westhill for next years Xmas celebrations. A full list of fixtures will be sent to you all early in the New Year.
